Classroom News:
Hope to see you at our school fall festival between 2:00-6:00 pm on October 20 (Sat).
Please practice double addition facts with your child at home each day to help him/her become fluent. Your child needs to learn double facts 0+0= 0 through 12+12=24. Its fun to practice these facts together when you are driving around town, walking home from school, waiting in a line or doing chores. Practicing will help your child gain confidence and enjoy playing Around the World games in class.
Several children have purchased a NED yoyo this week and enjoy bringing them to school to play with at recess; however, it will be very helpful if you would write your child's name on his/her yoyo. If your children were not able to purchase a NED yoyo while they were on sale at school this week and want a yoyo, they are more than welcome to buy a yoyo of their choice at a local store. Please remind your children if they bring their yoyo to school it may only be out during recess time and needs to be inside their backpacks the rest of the time. I recommend placing them inside a zipper pocket not a open side pocket in their backpacks.
I have started trimester one assessments this week and will continue through October 26. I will be giving your students several one on one assessments such as sight words, decoding words, counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens to 120, running record reading test (fluency & comprehension), writing a personal narrative about an event in your child's life and whole class assessments on math fact fluency, math chapter review, American symbols,100% spelling words, and spelling patterns. On October 22, I will have a sub teacher take care of the class while I meet with students for one-on-one for reading tests. You can help your child do his/her best by ensuring he/she gets enough rest, eats a healthy breakfast each day and giving him/her encouragement.
