Classroom News:
Hello First Grade Families,
Our class will be focused on completing our trimester two assessments next week. You can help your child by giving them encouragement and letting him/her know you are proud of him/her each day. I will have a quest teacher instructing the class on Tuesday (Feb 12) so I can give some one-on-one reading tests in the first grade flex room and attend a couple of meetings in the office. I will be giving ten words off of our 100% spelling word list each day Monday-Thursday (Feb 11-14) instead of the normal test I give on Fridays.
Your child is encouraged to select and bring his/her favorite book to school on Thursday (Feb 14) to share with our class and to refer to to write an opinion paper about this book. One format your child may wish to follow is "In my opinion (book title) is a (great or terrible) book to read. One reason why I feel this way is ______ because _____. Another reason is _____ because ______. My final reason is ________ because ______. That's why (book title) is a (great or terrible) book to read." Your child may use any writing format he or she wishes to as long as he/she expresses an opinion about the book and explains why he/she feels this way. They will be graded on how well they state their opinion, correct grammar, finger of space between words, use of an opening and closing sentences, and neat handwriting. Talking to your children about their opinions on different things often will help them learn to discuss and write about their opinions. We will take our writing test on Feb 15.
I am planning some fun friendship learning centers for the children to enjoy on Valentine's Day. If you would like to donate supplies or volunteer to help guide the children during a center activity please
click here to go to our volunteer link to sign up. Thanks!
Children may bring either a homemade or store brought friendship note for each of their classmates on Feb 14. Please click on the "More" tab at the top this page for a copy of our class list.
