Classroom News:
Hello First Grade Families,
Wow we only have six and a half weeks left of first grade after we return from spring break! It will be a busy learning time for your first graders as they prepare to become 2nd graders. We will be wrapping up our animal adaptation unit and start learning about plant adaptations. Then we will start an engineering unit which is always a big hit with our first graders. We will need families to start saving some of the following items at home for our engineering project but please do not send in anything until I request it, (around middle of May), since I have limited storage space in our classroom. We will need empty cereal & cracker boxes, empty yogurt and pudding cups, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, and empty 7.5 oz size soda cans. Thanks for your help saving these items for us.
Your children should have a copy of their musical play roles, play lines/songs and costume requirements in their blue folders or backpack. Please place these copies in a safe place at home and encourage your children to practice reading their speaking lines and words to song(s) at home each day as homework. Students will be working with partners who have the same role in the other first grade classes to preform their role in the play. Practicing at home will help your child gain confidence.
We will need parents to volunteer to help make costume hats and set up/clean up for the play. If you would like to help with the play please click here to get more details and sign up...click here for headpiece ideas if volunteering to make hats.
Our musical play will be on May 30 (Thurs.) at 5:00 p.m. in the WCS gym. Students will need to arrive in their classrooms at 4:30 p.m. dressed in their assigned costumes which we ask each family to put together for their child, (please look for a bright green paper attached to your child's lines/songs for costume requirements). Volunteers will make the hats for your children to wear in the play. You can find fairy wings for butterflies, grass skirts and flower/vine necklaces for shamans, feathers to glue onto toucan's shirts, etc at a local dollar or 99 cent store.
A special thank you to all the parents who helped with our science center visit yesterday! The children had an amazing time and learned a lot!
Have a great spring break with your loved ones! See you back at school on April 23!
Look what we are learning in first grade!
